Caravan shoot hits charity target
Thursday 23 September 2010
A clay pigeon shoot has raised £64,000 for the grocery charity Caravan. The big guns from the retail and manufacturing sector met at the West Midlands Shooting Centre at Hodnet in Market Drayton, Shropshire to take aim to support the National Grocer’s Benevolent Fund.
Fayrefield Foods organised the event and fielded two teams, one led by their new brand ambassador, cricket legend Darren Gough. Sixteen teams battled it out on Friday 17 September 2010, with Nick Bartlett, David Anderson, Peter Wellum and Peter Winstone from Milk Link claiming victory.
A close second were Adam Braithwaite, Martin Wilks, John Round and Mark Taylor shooting for the Dairy Crest team. Three competitors shared the prize for the best individual gun - Peter Wellum from Milk Link, Laurence Wiggington from Wright Agri Ind Ltd and Adam Braithwaite from Dairy Crest Ltd. The Best Lady’s prize was taken by Jane Akle, shooting for the Noble Foods team.
“It was a fantastic day and we are thrilled to have raised money for such a worthwhile cause,” says Fayrefield Foods’ Director Theresa Kerr.
Mark Price, President of the Caravan Fundraising Committee and Managing Director of Waitrose Ltd, presented the prizes. He thanked all companies for supporting the day and looked forward to welcoming everyone back to the grounds in September 2011.
